Hot Town, Summer In The City
I don't know what it's going to be like in the city today but it's going to be a scorcher here in the burbs and it's still only June. Looking ahead, I think August is going to be pretty miserable this year.
Lyrics: Lovin Spoonful - Summer In The City lyrics
Album: Lovin Spoonful Greatest Hits
Hot town, summer in the city
Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty
Been down, isn't it a pity
Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the city
All around, people looking half dead
Walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head
But at night it's a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come-on come-on and dance all night
Despite the heat it'll be alright
And babe, don't you know it's a pity
That the days can't be like the nights
In the summer, in the city
In the summer, in the city
Cool town, evening in the city
Dressing so fine and looking so pretty
Cool cat, looking for a kitty
Gonna look in every corner of the city
Till I'm wheezing like a bus stop
Running up the stairs, gonna meet you on the rooftop
But at night it's a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come-on come-on and dance all night
Despite the heat it'll be alright
And babe, don't you know it's a pity
That the days can't be like the nights
In the summer, in the city
In the summer, in the city
------ instrumental break ------
Hot town, summer in the city
Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty
Been down, isn't it a pity
Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the city
All around, people looking half dead
Walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head
But at night it's a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come-on come-on and dance all night
Despite the heat it'll be alright
And babe, don't you know it's a pity
That the days can't be like the nights
In the summer, in the city
In the summer, in the city

Now I'm going to have that song in my head the rest of the day. Wonder what the Lovin Spoonful is doing today.
No doubt~and we go back to school on the 28th of July. I sure hope the AC is working. One year they had to shut my AC off for repairs and it was 95 degrees in my classroom-we were all delirious. Not good for learning.
I am with Linda-singing away here-lol!
It's dreadfully hot and humid where I live right now. I just want to throw my body on top of one of our air conditioning vents.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I love that song, and hadn't heard it in years! It always reminds me of a summer night back in the 60s or early 70s when I heard it at Disneyland.
