Internet Fun

Want to have some fun on the Internet. Here's a few time-wasters fun things to do while you are surfing around.

  1. Click on the link to go to Yahoo.com. Once you're at the Yahoo site, click on exclamation point after the word Yahoo at the top of the page to hear the Yahoo Yodeler!

  2. At the very bottom of Amazon.com you can click on the directory of all stores link. Right below the copyright date at the very bottom of the page is a small box that's invisible unless highlighted. If you click on it you'll be taken to a special page dedicated to former Amazon.com employee David Rishers by Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos.

  3. Click here 600673.com for Google in leetspeak (which replaces letters with various ascii characters, usually numbers which are similar in appearance to the letters they are replacing).

  4. Click here Elmer Fudd for Google in Elmer speak.

I had forgotten about these things but was reminded of them in a newsletter I receive. Just a bit of silliness on a Thursday afternoon!

Now go have some fun!

Hot Town, Summer In The City

I don't know what it's going to be like in the city today but it's going to be a scorcher here in the burbs and it's still only June. Looking ahead, I think August is going to be pretty miserable this year.

Lyrics: Lovin Spoonful - Summer In The City lyrics
Album: Lovin Spoonful Greatest Hits

Hot town, summer in the city
Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty
Been down, isn't it a pity
Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the city

All around, people looking half dead
Walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head

But at night it's a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come-on come-on and dance all night
Despite the heat it'll be alright

And babe, don't you know it's a pity
That the days can't be like the nights
In the summer, in the city
In the summer, in the city

Cool town, evening in the city
Dressing so fine and looking so pretty
Cool cat, looking for a kitty
Gonna look in every corner of the city
Till I'm wheezing like a bus stop
Running up the stairs, gonna meet you on the rooftop

But at night it's a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come-on come-on and dance all night
Despite the heat it'll be alright

And babe, don't you know it's a pity
That the days can't be like the nights
In the summer, in the city
In the summer, in the city

------ instrumental break ------

Hot town, summer in the city
Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty
Been down, isn't it a pity
Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the city

All around, people looking half dead
Walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head

But at night it's a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come-on come-on and dance all night
Despite the heat it'll be alright

And babe, don't you know it's a pity
That the days can't be like the nights
In the summer, in the city
In the summer, in the city

Awards Come In - Awards Go Out

While I was away, Mercedes left me a couple of awards. She's nice like that. She's also had a bit of sorrow recently as she lost her beloved pal Patch. Ginger and I kept up with Patch's journey and prayed for him often until the path finally led him to The Rainbow Bridge. Thanks for the awards Mercedes and know we still think of you and Patch often.

This first award is a really pretty graphic titled You Make My Day. It was left for me on June 2nd and I want to pass it on to Diane at Faith In Community. Diane is a Lutheran minister near the twin cities in Minnesota. I have read her blog for quite some time. We first found a common link in that we both love and collect bookmarks. She frequently writes about her dog, Scout and publishes some of her sermons. I love her style of communicating. She teaches me how to live through her gift of words. She is as skilled as a poet... she is a poet.

The Sharing The Love award was given to me on June 18th. I am passing this one on to Miz Booshay at Quiet Life who is a talented photographer. She encourages her readers daily and also challenges us to encourage others. She writes tutorials for Photoshop (which I convert to use in Paint Shop Pro) and tips for photography that are featured at Confessions of a Pioneer Woman. She has a beautiful family and her posts include many pictures of her uniquely beautiful daughters. Thank you Miz Booshay for showing us how to live through your generous spirit and caring nature. Most of all, thank you for the encouragement.

Mosaic Maker Meme

I saw this over at Gill's jottings and thought it looked like a fun meme to do!

This is how it is done:
1. Type your answer to each of the questions below into Flickr Search.
2. Using only the first page of results, and pick one image.
3. Copy and paste each of the URLs for the images into Big Huge Lab’s Mosaic Maker to create a 3x4 mosaic of the picture answers.

The questions:
1. What is your first name?
2. What is your favorite food? right now?
3. What high school did you go to?
4. What is your favorite color?
5. Who is your celebrity crush?
6. What is your favourite drink?
7. What is your dream vacation?
8. What is your favourite dessert?
9. What do you want to be when you grow up?
10. What do you love most in life?
11. What is one word that describes you?
12. What is your flickr name?

Back In Business

Between the need to just take some time away from blogging and other aspects of my daily routine and some computer problems this week, I've been AWOL. But I think I'm back in business now.

I have some thoughts about a couple of things I want to do on the blog. While I was taking some time and deep in thought, I decided that I would like to do a series of interviews with members of my family and maybe even some friends if I feel comfortable enough with the process. I decided to start with one of my granddaughters, Sarah Grace, mostly because over the years, she has been my most consistent computer buddy.

I already have an outline and some of the questions and answers prepared but I really wanted to include pictures with this. I may change my mind about that if I don't hurry up and put something together so I can publish the first interview.

Also, I want to thank Meredith for a couple of awards she has given me while I've been away. I'll get those posted as soon as possible and passed on to others. I always have a problem with how to pass awards on as there are so many blogs that I enjoy reading that it's hard to decide who to give them to. I've had it in the back of my mind to do some posts about various bloggers I read and why I read them and what I like about them. Not that I have a great readership, but if I can pass along some links to interesting and / or fun sites to a few people, then why not.

I seem to have a lot on my mind but much of what's there doesn't seem that it would be that interesting to others. I will do a post to catch up further on mom's health, my son's move to Missouri and the job offer that seems to come and go before anything gets settled. There's also photography and Paint Shop Pro, books that I'm reading are gathering dust and the post I want to do on Factor V Leiden.

Anyway, I am trying to get back into the groove here so I hope to be posting more again and leaving a few more comments at other sites. So y'all take care, see ya soon!

What A Difference A Day Makes!

Okay, so it's been more than a day but as fast as everything has been happening around here it seems that quick. Let's just say it's been a strange couple of weeks. I've put some of the events and or updates from this time in outline form to try to keep everything straight (more for me than for you... lol).

Indiana- I canceled my trip to Indiana completely. My sister is there with mom instead of me. I'm glad she was able to go and I'm hoping I'll still make it up soon. If not, I will definitely head up in the fall.

Mom is fine. All of her tests came back looking pretty much like they did the last time she had them done so it appears that if she had an "incident", it was very minor and caused no perceptible damage. We have a mutated gene in our family (Factor V Leiden), which causes blood clots and can lead to strokes. Our clots typically form in the veins, not in the arteries and I've talked to my sister about making sure that they are looking beyond arterial clotting when they are testing mom. Most strokes (90%) are caused by arterial blockage or clots and they seldom look beyond that cause. FVL will be a subject of a future post, somewhere down the line.

My back is so much better. I am back to my normal aches and pains which I can deal with quite well. I think I need to get back on a regular exercise routine and do more stretching to avoid future problems.

Job offer- I had a job offer out of the blue that seems to have vanished before I got the specifics. I'm still not sure what happened but I was surprised to find that my interest was peaked so easily and disappointed that it doesn't appear that I'm going to get the details to even make a decision. I've been retired for four years and I think I'm ready to do something and the money would be nice!

My baby is moving away- My son has never lived anywhere, other than this area, since we moved here when he was 4 months old. The plant where he worked shut down over a year ago and he has been in school preparing for a new job since then. He was within a few months of completing that when he got word that GM was offering positions in Wentzville, Missouri and as soon as he heard, he made sure he had that location listed on places he would transfer to. He was called a few days later to start on the 16th of this month and then got a call to ask him if he could be there on the 9th, which is next Monday. He has spent the past week or so preparing everything to get out of here early Saturday morning. For the time being, he will be keeping his home, in the hopes that he will get an opportunity to transfer to the plant in Shreveport, which has been his goal since the plant here shut down. That could be as soon as a year from now or maybe up to three years. The kick in the pants is that just a few days after he signed a commitment to go to Wentzville, the Shreveport plant opened up and called most of the other workers who were on the transfer list to go there. If he hadn't been so conscientious, he would have gotten the location he wanted with a lot less hassle than moving 620 miles away from home. But then, this can also be a great opportunity for John to branch out in what I know to be a terrific location. Besides, my older brother and his family all live in that area so he won't be completely alone. I would write more about John and the feelings I have about him moving except he's really a very private person and I wouldn't want to embarrass him. I'll save that for his birthday!

Wondering just how it is going to feel to be here in Monroe totally on my own. My kids are all in other places, my mom and my siblings are spread all over the place and it is just Ginger, Woody and me come Saturday. We miss John already!
